Guided Learning

Comprehensive websites such as cvphysiology.com do not ordinarily structure the content in a manner similar to how that content might be presented in a classroom course. To make this website more than a compilation of individual cardiovascular physiology subjects, the Guided Learning pages provide a student with the opportunity to learn about the heart and circulation in a logical sequence, much like in a classroom course. The first learning block focuses on developing concepts related to normal cardiovascular physiology, much like is found in my printed textbook, Cardiovascular Physiology Concepts (Wolters Kluwer, 3e, 2021). The second learning block emphasizes the pathophysiological mechanisms of several cardiovascular disorders. This approach is modeled after curricula that utilize clinical topics for learning basic science and clinical topics. Because the pathophysiology block assumes basic knowledge of normal physiology, it is helpful to first examine the normal physiology block before the pathophysiology block.

Linked Quiz Questions

Users of cvphysiology.com have an opportunity to self-assess learning by answering quiz questions. At the end of each learning block topic, there is a link to an external website that has multiple choice and true/false questions that are associated with the content. When the quiz results are given to the user after taking the quiz, links are provided back to specific cvphysiology.com pages to assist in learning. Users need to register (free) on the testing website to access the quiz questions for the tutorial. No personal information is available to cvphysiology.com apart from the user provided login name and analysis of user performance on the quiz questions. This feedback is used to improve cvphysiology.com content and quiz questions.
